Resources for Veterans. USC currently has about 900 veterans at both the undergraduate and graduate level

 and is deeply committed to providing veterans with various support services. You can find many resources that may help you both initiate your education benefits as well as assist you with the transition to campus life.

The two main offices at USC that support veterans will be the Veterans Certification Office and the Transfer Success & Veteran Student Program.

Veterans Certification workplace: The target with this office would be to help initiate and process your education advantages, namely the GI Bill and Yellow Ribbon Program. Within the GI Bill programs may be the Post-9/11 GI Bill, which gives a maximum of $19,198.31 toward tuition and mandatory costs. This is where in actuality the Yellow Ribbon (YR) Program comes in. YR provides additional funding for veterans who want to go to private organizations. Currently, USC sponsors 20 undergraduate veterans through YR, and several graduate programs participate in the program because well, providing 83 YR spots to students that are graduate. But, according to Robert Morley, Associate Registrar in the Veterans Certification Office, most undergraduate veterans will get comprehensive need-based aid that is financial, including need-based grants, which assists offset what isn’t covered by the GI Bill.

Transfer Success & Veteran Student Program: The program that is veteran run by Assistant Director Syreeta Greene, is your ‘one-stop shop for information and resources’ excluding the certification procedure. The program puts on many events through the year for veteran students, including a Fall luau, relatives and buddies tailgate, and a Veteran’s Day celebration. Additionally, the USC Veterans Association is definitely an active student company on campus, which according to Ms. Greene, ‘acts being a help network as well as a social and expert system for our veteran students.’

Every 12 months about 60% of our applicants that are first-year for the December 1st merit-based scholarship deadline. We get over 47,000 applications so it is a process that is extremely competitive. These pupils are attaining at the level that is highest across the board. ‘Wait. So all we have to do is submit my application by December 1st?’

More often than not, yes! (There are exceptions to this; start to see the response to the next question). To be looked at, first-year students only need to submit the most popular Application and USC Writing Supplement, on or before December 1st (for transfer pupils become considered for transfer merit scholarships the deadline is February 1st). ‘When do we find down if I am being awarded a scholarship?’

For those first-year applicants whom applied by December 1st, notifications would be released by the start of February 2014. Consideration for many scholarships requires a trip to campus for an in-person interview. Pupils that do not receive a scholarship will be considered for still regular admission. All decisions will be mailed by 1, 2014 april.

‘What about educational funding? Is the same as scholarships?’

No. A scholarship is founded on students’s merit while educational funding is based on students’s need. Financial help will consist of university and grants that are federal work study and loans. USC meets 100% of demonstrated need as established by our aid that is financial office. The amount of your monetary aid will be based on the info in your FAFSA and CSS Profile. Both are accessible online and must be submitted by February 10th (first-year students) or March third (transfer students).
